Powerful Tools for Caregivers
Participants in this 6-week program from Legacy Caregiver Services attend a weekly workshop in community settings.People with different caregiving situations attend the program together, and are involved in a variety of exercises and activities. Workshops are facilitated from a manual by two trained leaders.
 
Participants:
  • reduce personal stress
  • change negative self-talk
  • communicate their needs to family members and healthcare or service providers
  • communicate more effectively in challenging situations
  • recognize the messages in their emotions, deal with difficult feelings
  • make tough caregiving decisions
MATERIALS
Materials are received upon first day of attendance.
 
AUTHORS
This program is based upon the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (in Kansas, known as KOHP) developed by Stanford University. K-State Research and Extension is the first organization in Kansas to have an systematic approach to disseminating this program in the state.
