Participants in this 6-week program from Legacy Caregiver Services
attend a weekly workshop in community settings.People with different caregiving situations attend the program together, and are involved in a variety of exercises and activities. Workshops are facilitated from a manual by two trained leaders
reduce personal stress
change negative self-talk
communicate their needs to family members and healthcare or service providers
communicate more effectively in challenging situations
recognize the messages in their emotions, deal with difficult feelings
make tough caregiving decisions
Materials are received upon first day of attendance.
This program is based upon the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (in Kansas, known as KOHP
) developed by Stanford University. K-State Research and Extension is the first organization in Kansas to have an systematic approach to disseminating this program in the state.
